Optimizing Healthspan: The Microbiome and the Gut-Brain Axis
Science is uncovering intriguing new connections between the microbiome and the aging process. Among the major implications of this emerging understanding is the recognition that nutritional approaches designed to influence the microbiome hold great promise for optimizing healthspan. In parallel, advances in microbiome assessment technologies are yielding unprecedented insights into how the microbiome mediates many of the effects of nutrition on health. These advances are facilitating the development of highly-personalized approaches for improving wellness, and specific examples of such approaches will be provided during the presentation.
Tom is a functional nutritionist, educator, speaker, consultant, and former research scientist. He has developed online educational programs and resources for practitioners who seek in-depth education in the microbiome and related topics. He also has extensive experience in the areas of aging and healthspan optimization, both through his previous research experience as well as his more recent experience as a functional nutrition practitioner.
