Beyond Fish Oil: The Essentials of Mental Health Nutrition
This presentation provides the essentials of advanced nutrition for mental health including concepts of biochemical individuality for mental health and evidence based dietary and nutrient protocols including the use of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and glandulars. We will explore specific approaches to collaborating with prescribers to help people withdraw from or identify nutritional alternatives to psychotropic medications. We will discuss how specific diagnoses affect the client’s ability to adhere to a nutritional programs and how the nutrition professional can navigate those challenges. We will also discuss strategies for nutritional interventions in a variety of settings including recovery programs, agencies, hospitals, schools and as well as private practice. Participants receive protocols, learn from cases and have the opportunity to ask about their own cases.
Dr. Leslie Korn is a renowned expert in mental health nutrition and traumatology and has provided over 50,000 hours of clinical care. She is a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, National Board Certified in Polarity therapy and Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. She completed hergraduate training at Harvard Medical School. She currently coaches clinicians in the application of mental health nutrition and integrative approaches to mental and physical well-being. She is the author of Nutrition Essentials for Mental Health: A Complete Guide to the Food-MoodConnection, Rhythms of Recovery: Trauma, Nature and the Body, Multicultural Counseling Workbook and Preventing and Treating Diabetes, Naturally: The Native Way.
